Celebrating 49 Years of Panther Pride!

Panther Pride has a rich history at Lufkin High School that began in 1971. Originally starting with 46 members, Panther Pride maintained that number through the 70s and 80s. In the early years, Panther Pride seldom used props and were known for their popular high-kick routines and for marching with the Panther Band.

Panther Pride has performed at all Lufkin High School football games, at least 2 basketball games each season, plus a few baseball games since they began. Panther Pride began entertaining and traveling to Drill Team competitions in the Spring of 1977 with the team performing high kick, jazz, and pom routines. The Spring Show tradition began in 1977 as well, featuring a fashion/modeling show plus dances in the basic field dance uniform and pep rally uniform.

The uniforms over the years have not changed often and the original knee-high boots, with a heel, were replaced in the 80s with white keds and socks before stepping out in the classic leather flat-heeled boots.
